In what was supposed to be more of a rebuilding year for the Packers’ offense to start the Jordan Love era, Green Bay’s first-year starting quarterback helped carry the team to a Divisional Round appearance and near-upset of the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers. With the majority of last season’s offense remaining the same, a new defensive coordinator in Jeff Hafley, two high-profile free-agent signings in running back Josh Jacobs and safety Xavier McKinney, and five picks in the first 91 selections, the Packers are primed for Super Bowl contention next season.

Packers’ key position needs

Safety:ThePackers spent big on McKinney in free agency, but they still need a second starting safety after their top two from last season signed elsewhere in free agency. General manager Brian Gutekunst said at the league meetings that he prefers a younger player with his best football ahead of him to pair with McKinney, so it appears more likely Green Bay will add that second starter early in the draft (or via second-year safety Anthony Johnson Jr.) rather than sign one of the remaining veteran free agents at the position.

Inside linebacker: Gutekunst said last month at the NFL Scouting Combine that the Packerswere “pretty thin” at inside linebacker. Since then, they released De’Vondre Campbell and re-signed special-teamers Eric Wilson and Kristian Welch at the position. Gutekunst said he feels “really good” about Isaiah McDuffie playing significant snaps in 2024, though thePackers need more bodies at the position and maybe even another starting-caliber player for Hafley.

Offensive tackle: The Packers seem confident in 2022 seventh-round pick Rasheed Walker, who filled in admirably on Love’s blind side after David Bakhtiari suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1. He’s likely the betting favorite to start there again in 2024, but the Packers will add another offensive tackle to compete with him and, at the very least, provide depth at the position after swing tackle Yosh Nijman signed with the Carolina Panthers in free agency.

2023: Edge Lukas Van Ness, No. 13 — Van Ness played slightly less than 33 percent of thePackers’ offensive snaps with four sacks, eight tackles for loss and one pass defensed. As they did with Rashan Gary after drafting him at No. 12 in 2019, the Packerslike to bring young edge rushers along slowly.

2022:ILB Quay Walker, DL Devonte Wyatt, No. 22, No. 28 — With an extra first-round pick from the Davante Adams trade, the Packers doubled up on Georgia defenders, who have become integral pieces of what figures to be a new-look defense under Hafley in 2024.

2021: CB Eric Stokes, No. 29 — Stokes played well as a rookie in 2021 but wasn’t good in the first half of 2022 before suffering a season-ending foot injury. He has barely played since because of multiple injuries and enters a contract year with his back against the wall.

2020: QB Jordan Love, No. 26 — Love was one of the league’s breakout stars in 2023, earning what will be a massive contract extension this offseason. ThePackershope they have found their next franchise quarterback and face of the organization for the next decade-plus.

2019: OLB Rashan Gary, S Darnell Savage Jr., No. 12, No. 21 — Gary signed a hefty contract extension last season, so he’s here to stay as a cornerstone of Green Bay’s defense. Savage, on the other hand, signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars this month after an underwhelming tenure with the Packers.
